Hi, we're Jesse & Samantha
... And this is our Story
We both love creative ideas and solving problems. And of course, we both love our adorable cat, Bandit. He’s completely unique just like every cat. He’s got big bright eyes, an insatiable curiosity, and a never-ending love for high places.
But that was the problem. We live in a horizontal world with our living room, dining room, family room, and kitchen. But in the wild, cats live in a vertical world. And as you may have observed, it’s no different in our homes. It’s all instinct, of course. Cats need to be elevated to feel safe, secure and confident. It’s also where they go to get away from the hustle and bustle of family life.
So, it was no wonder that when Bandit couldn’t find a counter, shelf or mantle to climb, he would Bandit would hide. His spaces weren’t the same as our spaces, so instead he would hide under our dust ruffle, under our couch or somewhere we could find him. In a vertical or elevated space, he was a happy, confident cat. But when forced down low, he became anxious and uncomfortable. We wanted Bandit to live with us in harmony, but he was no more comfortable living at floor level than we would be living on top of a phone pole.
What Bandid needed was an elevated space where he could interact with us, but still eat, sleep, climb and play in his own vertical world where he would feel naturally safe and in control. So, we tried every climbing product we could buy - but none did the trick. The cat towers were ok for a time, but they were all made out of cheap wood, dime-store carpeting and plastic. They were too unsightly and to display in any of our favorite living spaces so they found their way into the laundry room or elsewhere out of sight. And the cat furniture we found on Amazon and elsewhere was also made out of cheap materials, none sustainably harvested or sourced, and all were unsightly. What we wanted was something of designer-quality that Bandit would love and we would be proud to display in our favorite living space.
That’s when we decided to create our own solution, and so we set to work. It helped that Jesse was already a successful engineer and inventor, and Sam was a professional designer. And after two years of trial and error—we created a product that wasn’t like anything else we’d ever found! It wasn’t a cat tower, or a cat shelf, or cheap cat furniture flown in from Asia. It was something more! An integration of our domain and their domain; our horizontal world meeting their vertical world! We named it Purrch because that’s what Bandit did the minute he saw it. He hopped and skipped his way to the top and hit soon became his Purrch - his favorite living space. Bandit is now a very happy cat, and so are we.
For everyone who loves their cat a little more than they'd like to admit.
The first version
We used to make a lot more
The first version did everything. Shelves that pivoted, connectors, ramps, a food dish that mounted to the wall. You could build any configuration you wanted, and people did.
Then we looked at the walls we had built. They had taken over the room.
- Pivoting brackets
- Connectors
- Ramps
- Wall-mounted food dish
- Toy mounts
The shelf
Climb. Play. Scratch.
The hammock
Sleep.
Everything else was for us. The cat never missed it.
